Abstract

The Santa Rita Experimental Range of southeastern Arizona is the longest continuously operated research area dedicated to the sustainable management of North American rangelands. One-hundred years of accomplishments and contributions have evolved from this semi-desert research site. A conference to celebrate the 100-year history of these accomplishments and contributions will be held in Tucson, Arizona, from 30 October to 1 November 2003. Invited speakers will review the significant research findings in relation to vegetation change, vegetation managemetn, revegetation practices, livestock production, cultural resources, hydrology and soil erosion, wildlife ecology and management, and other relevant topics. Opportunities and directions for future research accomplishments will also be considered. Case studies to complement these topics will be presented in volunteer poster papers.
